Posting these tonight before the author reveals go up so I don't feel guilty about the people I'm scorning :O (Yes, I mainly copypasta'd this from my delicious*. stfu.)
My 16 favorites fics from the 47 posted at
queenbitchfest:
1) The City That Never Sleeps (ETA: by
lemonade_lady)
Excerpt: The man across the street was still smiling. "Are you waiting for someone? You've been over there for a while." He had a loud voice, like syrup, that carried easily across the traffic to where Kris was standing awkwardly.
"What? Oh. I… no. " He looked down at his feet. They weren't even making eye contact. They weren't even within fifteen feet of each other, and he was blushing like a schoolgirl. Maybe he was still drunk from all of that eggnog he drank last night.
"Are you going somewhere?" The other man called, persisting despite Kris being completely deficient at holding conversations with strangers across the street.

2) Tomorrow Takes Me Higher (1/4) (ETA: by
cjmarlowe)
Excerpt: "Kris and I are going to stick around a little longer," said Adam, "if that helps."
"It does, a little," Anoop admitted. "I'm surprised someone hasn't come to spirit you away yet."
"Yeah, well, don't think they haven't threatened," said Adam.
"Why are you still here?" asked Anoop. "I know it's none of my business, but...."
"Yeah, I know," said Adam. "I just need to be here right now. For Matt, for me, for Kris."
"For Kris, huh," said Anoop, less a question than a conclusion. He watched Kris at the nurses' station for a few moments. "Yeah, I guess you would be."
* addiction
3) So pull me out of this dream (ETA: by
misswhy)
Excerpt: "Stay a bit longer, I like talking to you."
Kris laughs a little. "This is surreal. You are surreal."
"No, trust me; it's you who… you're not like anybody else in that room." Adam nods towards the brightly lit room behind him. "You're special."
"Yeah?" Kris laughs. "Why, if I didn't know better, I'd say you where trying to take me home." He tries to sound cocky, but even in this light Adam can see him blush.
"Who says I'm not?" Adam says and kisses him.

4) I Would Be (1/4) (ETA: by
cathalin)
Excerpt: "Listen," the guy said, voice soft but intense, "you're obviously an asshole with something to prove. I could care less what you do, but I'd rather keep living in our car than have Katherine around someone who would hurt a kid in any way. So just forget the whole thing."
Adam couldn't help but notice how the guy scanned the room even as he was speaking, obviously reluctant to actually give it up. The seconds ticked off. A hundred snarky responses raced through Adam's mind, but for some reason he bit them off. "I'm gay, too," he finally said. "Really, really massively gay, and pretty fucked up right now." Fuck, the little girl was living in a motherfucking car. He took a breath. "But I'd never hurt a kid."
* kidfic
* pathos
5) ...with gasoline (ETA: by
janescott)
Excerpt: Adam tucks his phone into his pocket. He'd sent Kris the name of the hotel and his room number, and now it's just a matter of waiting. Like last year, in New York. And the year before that, in Tokyo. He wanted to ask Kris what he told Katy about going all the way to Japan just for one night, but – outside of this one night every year – Adam and Kris really don't talk much anymore about anything, and asking Kris about Katy smacks of a kind of intimacy – of a friendship that they haven't had in a long time. They have this, though. Such as it is, Adam thinks idly as the sky burns.

* unhappy
6) Boys Keep Swinging (1/2) (ETA: by
eleanor_lavish)
Excerpt: "I need a thing I do that makes me look like a good person," Adam clarifies. "Something... churchy."
"Well, all you do is wear black and seduce underage boys. So unless you're planning on joining the priesthood, I'm not sure a life in the church is for you."
Adam groans. "He's so nice, Brad. How can one person be that nice?"
"He's not that nice. He's kind of a snarky bitch, actually." Brad is still impressed by a hilarious comment Kris made about Dr. Tedder's ability to make every lecture sound exactly the same.
Adam sighs piteously. "I know. He's perfect."
* au-school
7) What in the world can I do? (ETA: by
faeries_wing919)
Excerpt: "I'll keep my phone on, so call or text any time, okay?" Kris pushes back Adam's hair, kissing his forehead several times. Fuck, he does not want to leave. He wanted to bring Adam along with him, but he had a few meetings in LA.
"Okay," is all Adam can manage. He bites his lip and his eyes fall away from Kris's face.
Kris tilts his chin upwards and kisses him gently. "I love you," he mumbles, curling his fingers in Adam's hair, his heart cracking in little fractures like an ice cube dropped in cold water.

8) Back of a Dream Car Twenty Foot Long (ETA: by
theswearingkind)
Excerpt: "Does what ever bother me?"
Kris smiles – ten years gone and it still takes Adam's breath away sometimes, just how beautiful he is. "You know."
"Enlighten me," Adam says, eyes falling shut against his will, sleep starting to drag him under.
Kris doesn't answer for a moment. Then he reaches out, and Adam feels a finger running down the bridge of his nose, a thumb tracing the curve of his bottom lip, and the air around him moves as Kris leans in close, ghosting his lips over Adam's mouth.
"That it's not real."

9) Far More Than Fleeting (ETA: by
jenslore)
Excerpt: "What the fuck were you thinking?!" he all but bellowed, raking a hand through his already mussed hair before pulling back and resuming his pacing. Adam had just enough time to notice the new hole in his wall that was around the size and shape of Kris' fist before he was speaking again.
"So what are we doing here?" Kris placed his hands on the back of the couch across from Adam, leaning forward, his arms flexing and tense.
Adam stared at him, just as mystified by the inclusion of the word "we" as by the question itself.
Kris arched his brows and clarified, "Do you want to stop or am I on a sinking ship?"

10) Future Legend (1/7) (ETA: by
winterlive)
Excerpt: Adam closes the hug, shutting the world out. "Hey," he murmurs into Kris's hair. "What's up?"
"This one wanted to see you," Emzieh says, tilting his head at Kris. "It's been a weird day, man."
"Mmph," Kris agrees, his face pressed to Adam's soft, dark jacket. He's gripping the back of it, pressing Adam to him. Adam holds on a little tighter.
"What happened?" he asks, voice hard. "That cut on his lip, is that from today?"
"My fault," Emzieh says in a contrite voice. Adam's body goes taut with fury under Kris's hands. Emzieh doesn't seem to notice. "I lost my temper, but-"
"Get out," Adam snarls. It's gone from him holding Kris to Kris holding him, blocking Adam with his body.
"Get out!" Adam shouts. "Does it look like I'm playing with you motherfuckers?! Leave us alone!"

11) Seeing (ETA: by
funnilyenough)
Excerpt: "Why don't you just ask my publicist that? Have your people call my people?" The words slip before Adam gets a chance to rethink, but it has the intended effect. Kris' persona drops instantly, and his eyes narrow.
"I try to be nice and you give me bullshit," Kris says in a low voice. "Whatever. I don't need this. I didn't need to come here and talk to you." Kris turns away sharply but Adam reaches out and grabs a fistful of his suit.

12) Stardust (ETA: by
astolat)
Excerpt: Kris wanted to grin at him, but somehow it had skidded off his face. Adam looked too far away.
Adam took another drag, and then he put down the joint and turned around and came over to the daybed. Kris stood up to hug him, Adam's arms sliding around him and pulling him in close, and Kris pressed his face into Adam's feathers and held on, unwinding; he didn't need Adam to talk as long as they had this. Adam could be as freaked-out as he wanted.
Then Adam was leaning him back, way back. Kris grabbed at his shoulders for balance, his fingers skidding on feathers and leather underneath. Adam was laying him out on the daybed, flat, and Adam's mouth was at the hollow of his throat, tugging the shirt collar low with his teeth.
* explicit
13) Darkness and Dismay (ETA: by
becomingblurred)
Excerpt: "Look. I'm not sixteen years old anymore, Kris. And even then, I wasn't really blind. You loved him. I mean, we all did, but you and he... it was different. It was always different. And that's not because you were straight and he was gay, or that you were from different backgrounds, or whatever the media liked to point out about you two. You just loved each other."
"It's not that simple," Kris replies, even though it is, in a sense.
"To you, maybe it isn't, but to me, it is. You were meant to be together. You're supposed to hurt now that he's gone."

14) Whatever Happens (ETA: by
llaras)
Excerpt: Kris looks stricken.
"C'mere." Adam pats the space next to him and Kris scoots up and settles next to his side, lets Adam draw him into a one-armed hug.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to freak you out." His voice is muffled against Adam's shoulder.
"It's okay. You just threw me for a loop there. Kris, I --" Adam's still trying to figure out how he wants to react to this news. Besides practically fainting like a heroine in some trashy romance novel. How embarrassing. "Talk to me. Tell me what brought this on. Why do you think you're in love with me?"

15) We Are Not Your Friends (We're Here To Eat You) (ETA: by

Excerpt: It's painted a matte black, and it looks heavy, like it's meant to stop things from escaping, and there's a neon sign in bright red that says FANGTASIA in a curvy script casting a bloody glow into the hot Shreveport night. There's a line – of course there's a line – but it's one black-clad fangbanger after another. Every one of them is watching him walk toward the bouncer at the door like he's an ant under a magnifying glass. "I'm just here to find my friend!" he wants to say. "I'm not going to have any fun, I promise!"

16) Running Gun Blues (ETA: by
lordnelson100)
Excerpt: "Slow POKE!" And he followed the word with the gesture, landing a black-painted fingertip somewhere around the smaller man's temple and gently pushing.
Kris just smirked. "Can' help it if I'm thorough."
It was true. Kris was the steady turtle of the fan line, laid back and cordial, but dogged about sticking his own pace. "I need to see what I'm signing," he said. "Where I'm from, they always warned me not to put my name to anything without looking at it."

fffffffuuuuuu this post is ugly and html is boring. This is why I usually only use delicious instead of maintaining a ~proper rec journal like I sometimes contemplate.
(*FYI: sometimes when I highlight excerpts for my delicious I edit them for length. I try to keep everything under 500 characters to prevent GIANT BLOCK OF TEXT ATTACK. Upon reflection, it occurs to me that this probably pisses off the writers. :O Sorry, I'm too lazy to go back and fix everything. :X It's not a commentary on your writing, I promise.)
